Though seen as a river pirate by many, in their hometown, Vlad and the other Upper Talabec Kazaks are heroes. In their minds they tax fairly, for a service. Ursun, primary, Taal, also respects Riverside village, poor harvests, joined a gang to bring in food, they went full pirate after their village was destroyed when they were away. This gang was recently wiped out and Vlad was captured by River Wardens from the Empire after they wandered a bit too far south. They were ambushed and their boat was set alight.
