What we know[edit]

From Lefaric's Journal[edit]

- a personal journal kept by Lefaric. Until it reaches the date of the Godsfall, the entries are mostly mundane; it was started by Lefaric as a youth before his ordination as a priest of Waukeen, and goes on to detail his successful (and profitable) career under the goddess's church in Selgaunt, capital of Sembia.

Then Waukeen herself arrives on the scene. She introduces herself immediately to her clergy; Lefaric is clearly smitten with her, and thrilled that his clerical powers return while in her presence. The notes turn from "ecstatic" to "worried" as Waukeen announces that Bane has returned to Zhentil Keep and made it the seat of his cult... and that the whole of her church will be making a business alliance with the Zhentarim. While Lefaric is no stranger to unscrupulous business practices, and still goes along with Waukeen's wishes, he's reasonably worried, considering the Black Network's reputation. When he goes to Waukeen with her concerns, her only reply is that the Zhents "are good for business" and that "with the world in chaos, we need to work together to bring prosperity and opportunity to our flock."

Lefaric become curious about "the world at large" and mentions a few tidbits discovered

- Waterdeep is apparently in the midst of a vicious civil war between Selune and Shar. Most of Shar's church in Selgaunt has left to go on a war pilgrimage in Faerun's largest city

- rifts to the Underdark are opening *everywhere*

- the decay of the Weave is wrecking havoc in all corners. The magocracy of Halruaa is apparently just *gone*

- the church of Waukeen in Sembia has dealt with a great deal of resistance in the countryside from the Harpers, led by Llira (which probably explains Lefaric's reaction)

Later in the journal, Lefaric is thrilled to mention that the goddess has chosen him and other high-ranking Guildmasters to bear a portion of her power, so that they can bring healing (at a price) to those who need it. He is sent east to build alliances and support for the church and the Zhentarim, who have become increasingly intertwined. The goal of acquiring service contracts (in the form of "Indulgences") from the Nar was secondary, the primary goal was to make it to the "now vulnerable" capital of Thay, where he would meet with a Zhentarim attache named "M. Corbulo", and he and the Zhentarim would work to form an alliance with a wizard who has acquired Tyr's power named "Guo-Radha"

The journal ends with Lefaric leaving Selgaunt and heading towards Narfell

From the Currency of Thay[edit]

Dimon has also used his control of the incoming trade into Bezantur to maintain his power. Unsurprising for a Banite, he has relied on Zhentarim contacts to arrange for a steady flow of caravans to supply the war-torn city with goods. The Zhentarim presence is not overt (yet), but it's clear they now have stakes in Thay. His primary Zhent contacts are a priestess of Waukeen named Sildia and a spymaster named Corbulo
