Half of the planet is Hotter than Death Valley (140+ Degrees Fahrenheit in its 'coolest' regions), and the other half is Colder than Siberia (-40 Degrees Fahrenheit and below in its 'warmest' regions). This split in extreme temperature runs from pole to pole forming a 'second equator' commonly called the Temperature Equator. There is no actual Sun (or moon for that matter), but the planet does rotate and there are Day and Night Cycles of light and darkness each lasting 18 Earth Hours long. There is a 10 minute Twilight of a quick but steady lightening or darkening of the sky. The light is indirect and just seem to come from the sky. The sky is gray but is rarely seen, if ever, due to the constant cover of heavy Swirling Clouds of varying shades of gray. The planet is nearly always windy in most places and in both climes, and there are varying types of storms depending upon varying factors. Some of the more notable include acid rains, acid snows, acid ice storms, colored lightning storms of great to severe intensity, plasma storms high in the Swirly Clouds (great light show, messes up Tech for awhile) and even some worse types of storms exist. Also, there is a good possibility of Shadow Storms; they are almost as common as the Lightning Storms.

The Planets geologic make up and topography vary greatly, but all are impassible to most Beings, or nearly so and the environment would be considered hostile to nearly all living creatures, aside from the Indigenous Creatures of Fuego y Hielo, that is. There are no suitable places to build and nothing native suitable to build with. There are no living forms of flora that are native to this planet currently living on this planet; only that which was brought in by Shadow Storms and Travelers then found its way to the Rest Stops. The same can be said about native fauna; there isn't any... except the demonic-looking Indigenous Creatures.

The Planets smoldering and frozen landscapes are crisscrossed in Highways, Freeways, Railways and Monorails... and, of course, the Rest Stops the Shadow was named for. All Highways, Freeways, Railways, Monorails and Rest Stops are build of the same two Magical Minerals: Hexite and Hexium, and all of them are raised up off the ground by at least one foot at bare minimum. There are no actual Cities, Towns, Villages, etc. to be found anywhere on the World of “Rest Stop”, only Rest Stops... though some are quite sizable and would be considered by some to be a large town, except for the fact that the overall look and layout is clearly designed to be a Rest Stop for Travelers, even though there are many that call a Rest Stop their 'home'.

This is odd in the fact that nearly every other Shadow with motorways will have rest stops occur on remote stretches of highways or freeways between populated areas, and almost never on railways. It is rumored that somewhere on the planet there is a long lonely highway going to nowhere and coming from nowhere; its called The Lost Highway, and set off to one side of the highway only, there stands The Lonely Rest Stop. Millennia ago, thousands of Ancient Creatures simultaneously Mutated, became incredibly intelligent then they all became Linked in a Psychic Collective. However, the Paving is still Hexite and whatever condition the paving was in when it 'blended' with the Hexium Paving, it will be forever.  And all Road and Rail Ways are build upon Hexium decking supported by Hexite columns.

The atmosphere, temperature, weather, and smell outside the Rest Stop along the Highway are all barely tolerable by most human standards.  The terrain in the area is a plain of impassible jagged rocks and boiling pools of mud or lava. All of the creatures of this area are horrific-looking and will linger closer to the highway than normal if there are Travelers, but not too close. The roadway slopes upwards, climbing a slight hill; ahead on the right is what appears to be an oasis of vegetation and water and a few small buildings. The Rest Stop is situated atop a small hill... really, more of a nob, and it's obvious that the vegetation is all made of colored metal and not really living plants at all. There are no living things here, except those visiting.

The Shadow Path is a little ways behind the grassy spot where Rafe drank and talked with H&TE, a spot not easily seen from the Pullout; it's between very two tall pines that are close together, but wide enough between for a Human to walk comfortably. They lean towards one another with trunks crossed high up just below the branch line. To access the Shadow Path in or out, each person crossing must pinch their nose closed with their left hand and close their right eye before and while crossing between the tree trunks while whispering too softly to be heard: “Pepé Le Pew.”

DESCRIPTION[edit]

Half of the planet is Hotter than Death Valley (140+ Degrees Fahrenheit in its 'coolest' regions), and the other half is Colder than Siberia (-40 Degrees Fahrenheit and below in its 'warmest' regions). This split in extreme temperature runs from pole to pole forming a 'second equator' commonly called the Temperature Equator. There is no actual Sun (or moon for that matter), but the planet does rotate and there are Day and Night Cycles of light and darkness each lasting 18 Earth Hours long. There is a 10 minute Twilight of a quick but steady lightening or darkening of the sky. The light is indirect and just seem to come from the sky. The sky is gray but is rarely seen, if ever, due to the constant cover of heavy Swirling Clouds of varying shades of gray. The planet is nearly always windy in most places and in both climes, and there are varying types of storms depending upon varying factors. Some of the more notable include acid rains, acid snows, acid ice storms, colored lightning storms of great to severe intensity, plasma storms high in the Swirly Clouds (great light show, messes up Tech for awhile) and even some worse types of storms exist. Also, there is a good possibility of Shadow Storms; they are almost as common as the Lightning Storms.

The Planets geologic make up and topography vary greatly, but all are impassible to most Beings, or nearly so and the environment would be considered hostile to nearly all living creatures, aside from the Indigenous Creatures of Fuego y Hielo, that is. There are no suitable places to build and nothing native suitable to build with. There are no living forms of flora that are native to this planet currently living on this planet; only that which was brought in by Shadow Storms and Travelers then found its way to the Rest Stops. The same can be said about native fauna; there isn't any... except the demonic-looking Indigenous Creatures.

The Planets smoldering and frozen landscapes are crisscrossed in Highways, Freeways, Railways and Monorails... and, of course, the Rest Stops the Shadow was named for. All Highways, Freeways, Railways, Monorails and Rest Stops are build of the same two Magical Minerals: Hexite and Hexium, and all of them are raised up off the ground by at least one foot at bare minimum. There are no actual Cities, Towns, Villages, etc. to be found anywhere on the World of “Rest Stop”, only Rest Stops... though some are quite sizable and would be considered by some to be a large town, except for the fact that the overall look and layout is clearly designed to be a Rest Stop for Travelers, even though there are many that call a Rest Stop their 'home'.

Oddly, ALL Rest Stops on the Planet occur at intersections of two or more Roadways, Railways or combinations of both. This is odd in the fact that nearly every other Shadow with motorways will have rest stops occur on remote stretches of highways or freeways between populated areas, and almost never on railways. There are no 'typical' rest stops anywhere in this Shadow... except for one. It is rumored that somewhere on the planet there is a long lonely highway going to nowhere and coming from nowhere; its called The Lost Highway, and set off to one side of the highway only, there stands The Lonely Rest Stop. Oddity: No Air Travel on Rest Stop. Technology based aircraft cannot fly in the heavy winds, odd weather and odd magnetics that mess up their instruments. Magical flight is very difficult as well and rarely attempted. However, Flying Drones are used within the confines of some of the larger Rest Stops to deliver messages and small packages, but only within the confines of that Rest Stop.

Special Note on Building Materials:

Hexite: A Stone of Dark Turquoise and Brownish-Rust colors in mottled patterns; looks polished and very smooth.

Hexium: A Metal of Light Turquoise and Orange-Rust colors in mottled patterns; looks dull with a slightly rough texture.

Hexite and Hexium can only be found where Fire meets Ice: along the Second Equator aka the Temperature Equator running pole to pole around the planet... but these two Magical Minerals can only be found at certain locations along the Second Equator, not its entire circumference. The Veins vary in depth beneath the surface based upon local topography but all Veins found and mined are equal in width along the Temperature Equator and in depth/thickness downward, only the length of the Veins vary.

Both Magic Minerals can only be mined, smelted, separated and shaped Magically as they are Indestructible and unaffected by all other attempts to remove them from the ground, separate it from itself (break it) or change its shape (carve it, cut it, melt it, etc.). Spells and Artifacts based on Low Order Magic Systems will not affect Hexite and Hexium. However, any form of Sorcery Spell based upon an Inscription of Power, High or Low Order, CAN affect these two Magical Minerals; the more powerful the Inscription the Sorcery is based upon, the more Mineral can be affected per Spell use.

The Creatures:

  • All are Predators ranging in size from the size of a Racoon to the size a large Horse, each adapted to their specific environment, all are temperature intolerant beyond a few degrees outside their specific environment, which is why they avoid getting too close to Roadways, Railways and Rest Stops. They look like demonic creatures, by most Human Standards and even most Chaosian Standards as well; naturally armored and armed with claws, horns, etc., multi-limbed and tails, wings in some cases, gills in other cases, highly adapted to their specific environment, able to work together in small groups for hunting purposes only.

The Intelligent Beings:

  • ALL Intelligent Beings are Offworlders or Descendants of Offworlders; there are no indigenous intelligent beings since The Ancient Ones disappeared untold years ago. There is a wide variety of Humanoid Beings and some Non Humanoid Beings residing and doing business on Rest Stop. Now, 'Humanoid Being' covers a lot of Bipedal Races with two (or more) arms, and (usually) a single head... Sooo, there are a lot of very different looking 'humanoids' walking and driving about Rest Stop... and some of them are actually Humans... or close enough.

HISTORY[edit]

A strange Shadow of both Order and Chaos on the far flung end of the Avalon Sway near the edge of the Sway of Chaos and perhaps even the edge of the Sway of Mandalay. A spherical world where extreme heat meets extreme cold along a second equator running pole to pole. A world of unusual Physical and Cosmological Laws.

Millennia ago, thousands of Ancient Creatures simultaneously Mutated, became incredibly intelligent then they all became Linked in a Psychic Collective. Their knowledge and understanding grew by leaps and bounds through the Collective Link and it was soon discovered that One was greater in Power and Understanding than the rest; it was The Prime, and it led the others.

They were drawn together at a place where Fire met Ice near the planet's actual Equator, for the world did in fact turn continuously, despite there being no Sun or Moon to show this... if one could see past the constant clouds, that is. At the place of The Crossing Equators, they discovered the Magical Metal and Magical Stone that this Strange Shadow had produced. They discovered its Temperature Altering Properties immediately, and the others over time. They Evolved quickly as they tried to find a way to mine these Magical Minerals, and came to the conclusion that it must be done with Magic, so, they collectively taught themselves Magic, with the Leadership of The Prime.

As the Ancients grew in Magical Power and Knowledge of the Magical Minerals through Divination and Experimentation, they all began having a Collective Dream of a world crisscrossed with roadways and railways. And Rest Stops dotting the landscape in places between the intersecting travel ways. This future world would be a world of travel and commerce, a world meant to be traveled through on one's way to somewhere else.

Once the Ancients had Mastered the Magics necessary to Mine and Shape the Magical Minerals, Hexite and Hexium, they began by Crafting a Remote Test Highway and a Remote Rest Stop; this was during the early Mining Efforts of the Magical Minerals.

Then, a Great Magical Spell was crafted by The Collective of Ancients, but when it was released, a Shadow Storm hit the World of Fuego y Hielo, and everything went awry. The 'Ancient Ones' all disappeared, the Road and Rail Project was in place worldwide, but it was incomplete and NOT the way the Ancients intended. All the Rest Stops ended up at Intersections and only at Intersections. The Roadways and Railways somehow blended with various building materials of the worlds they crossed over with during the Shadow Storm, so the Paving can look like any kind of Paving found in Shadows with roads. And the Rails of the Railways would also be the same. However, the Paving is still Hexite and whatever condition the paving was in when it 'blended' with the Hexium Paving, it will be forever. And all Road and Rail Ways are build upon Hexium decking supported by Hexite columns.

The Rest Stops were filled with walkways, restrooms, magical vending machines and pools of clean water. And the larger Rest Stops had more building meant to be sleeping quarters for future travelers and some meant to be shops and living quarters for, perhaps, one day, future inhabitants.

Shadow Travelers were the first to find this odd place, but most just passed through. Though some did stay on a bit, but then left too. Many came back through on their way to other places.

Most of the Peoples of Rest Stop are those dumped here by Shadow Storms or those dumped here by Shadow Travelers, and now the descendants of those Beings. Over time more and more Rest Stops became 'manned' and Cross Shadow commerce grew; Rest Stop became a World filled with Wares from many Worlds. It also became a home to the People of Rest Stop.

The Great Shadow Storm and what went Wrong/Right:[edit]

"The Great Shadow Storm, the Ancients & the Living Spell and How Raphael fits into it all."

A Great Shadow Storm hit near the apex of the Great Spell of the Ancients being Completed, It changed many parameters of the Spell. The Ancients become part of the Spell making it a Living Spell and lending a semi-consciousness to the Spells Creations; namely the Vending Machines, Automated Services and Area Lighting (External and Internal). It moved the Rest Stops to intersections, it decorated the Rest Stops with colored metal sculptures resembling vegetation, it blended Shadow paving materials with the local Hexite, it 'blew in' many different objects from many different Shadow; those objects were eventually used to furnish buildings or used as trade by the Inhabitants of Rest Stop.

Construction: The entire construction of the Rest Stop itself, but not all of its contents, are made from the Magical Minerals; Hexite (stone) and Hexium (metal). The Rest Stop is raised up off the surrounding ground by stone (Hexite) columns supporting metal (Hexium) Decking (Walkways, Floors, Sitting Areas, Parking Areas and Covers and Roofs. Roof supports are Hexite Columns. The Water Pools are made of Hexite, the Buildings have Hexite walls with Hexium floors, ceiling, doors & shutters. The Railings around the outer edges of the Decking is 4 feet tall with Hexite vertical supports and 4 equally spaced rails of Hexium. The Guardrails on the outer border of the parking areas are the same in design to the Guardrails on the Roadways.

Environment: The Temperature is more comfortable and the Air Quality is better within the Rest Stop area, to include the Covered Parking Areas. A constant temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit in hot climes, 50 in cold climes.

Facilities: All water is pure and clean everywhere within the Rest Stop area. All restrooms are immaculately clean and include flushing toilets, bidet toilets, sinks with hot and cold running water, large mirrors and even showers with hot and cold running water.

Lighting: Magical glow that is both darkness and motion activated; ceilings have larger areas that are brighter; decking/floors are smaller areas and dimmer, usually along edges.

Vending Machines: Made from Hexium, Magical and Psychic; will change contents to suit the Person using it. Palm Scanner, accepts all forms of Currency and Valuables, Digital Selection Pad, dispenses Quality Wares for a fair price. The vending machines will have a wide variety of snacks and drinks as well as specialty items, such as; replacement vehicle parts, towels and toiletries, electronic accessories, and even various spell components. All payments are teleported to a 'portable hole'-style vault accessed through the maintenance room located in the center of the restroom building through a narrow hallway. This room and vault can only be accessed by the Master of the Realm using the Master's Amulet.

THE LONELY REST STOP:[edit]

The atmosphere, temperature, weather, and smell outside the Rest Stop along the Highway are all barely tolerable by most human standards. The terrain in the area is a plain of impassible jagged rocks and boiling pools of mud or lava. All of the creatures of this area are horrific-looking and will linger closer to the highway than normal if there are Travelers, but not too close. The roadway slopes upwards, climbing a slight hill; ahead on the right is what appears to be an oasis of vegetation and water and a few small buildings. The Rest Stop is situated atop a small hill... really, more of a nob, and it's obvious that the vegetation is all made of colored metal and not really living plants at all. There are no living things here, except those visiting.

The buildings and central water pool are made of metal and are set atop covered metal walkways and sitting areas that are raised-up off of the smoldering ground on columns of stone. The air is more breathable and the temperature cooler in the parking lot area and along the walkways; all the metal is cool to the touch. The water is pure and clean everywhere within the rest area. The restrooms include flushing toilets, bidet toilets, sinks with hot and cold running water, large mirrors and showers with hot and cold running water. The vending machines have a wide variety of snacks and drinks, however, no place to insert coins or bills, just a palm scanner and a digital pad for choices... though oddly, each machine has a coin return bin below the palm scanner pad.

PLACES: THE OASIS CAVERNS[edit]

Raphael's Secret Place aka The Home of The Ancients

Massive Caverns covering mostly open spaces 4 miles wide (spanning the Temperature Equator 2 miles on either side), 12 miles long along the Temperature Equator, and up to one mile deep at its highest/lowest points. The Caverns have a few openings to the sky along its length and breadth, all nestled amongst jagged impassible peaks running for hundreds of miles along the Temperature Equator in a massive mountain range spanning both sides of the Temperature Divide for hundreds of miles in both directions, covering hundreds of thousands of square miles of the worlds surface in impassible and unexplored mountains. [Special Note: The Lonely Rest Stop on the Lost Highway is on a plain of jagged rocks right next to the foothills of the mountain range containing the Oasis Caverns.

  • The outer walls, floor, ceiling of the Oasis Caverns (and many of the internals natural features of the Caverns as well) are covered in a layer of blended Hexite and Hexium exactly 13 inches thick.
  • The Caverns maintain a Perfect Temperature of 65 degrees Fahrenheit at all times.
  • There is Rich Soil and Healthy Vegetation; Trees, Bushes, Grasses, Mosses, and Lichens. There are also a few fruiting trees and bushes as well as edible fungi and even a few strains of Cannabis growing within the Oasis Caverns.
  • There are also Bees, Hives and Honey.
  • As well as Ants that Clean the Soil, help breakdown the vegetation and to eat the excess Honey from the Bee Hives.
  • There are Lakes, Rivers and Aquifers filled with clean pure water, and micro-organisms in the soil, water and plants appropriate for sustaining the Ecosystem of the Oasis Caverns.

This World was in an Age of Electronics & Computers ruled by The Ultra Rich, Heads of Greedy Corporations and Corrupt Government Officials & Politicians. Many would have said it was a World of Wealth & Opportunity, a World of Booming Technologies, a World on the Rise... but truly, it was a World in Decline and Decay.

Global Warming, Climate Change, Radioactive & Toxic Waste Poising the soil and water, Pollution poisoning the air, increasing Natural Disasters with increasing frequency and severity, Over Mining, Over Harvesting, Over Engineering Crops & Livestock, Crumbling Infrastructures in nearly every town and city world wide, increasing numbers of Homeless world wide, Mentally Ill, Suicides on the rise, Mass Shootings on the rise, the Working Class getting paid less and working more, the Middle Class all but gone, Physical, Mental and Emotional Health issues on the rise world wide in all but the Upper Class. And the Rape of the Earth and the Slavery of the Working Class went on as the 'Ten Percenters' got more Wealth and more Control, for all the good it did them... or anyone for that matter.

    • The Virus that nearly wiped out all Humans and Primates on the Planet is now GONE. The World is completely Clean of the Plague, to include NO Carriers of the Virus. Also, all other forms of harmful Viruses and Bacteria that effect Humans and Primates have been Cleansed from the World. However, this information is UNKNOWN TO ALL except Rafe and Crew.
    • All of the Survivors of Plague World are convinced their World is Doomed. BUT somehow everyone also feels there is a way to escape their Dead World and that 'somewhere else' there is a better life. Most believe it involves Space Ships & Space Stations and the Moon or possibly Other Planets... others believe it has something to do with underground cave systems and man made habitats... but they all 'think' that they have felt this way since the first waves of mass deaths began and the Government shut up and shut down.
      • All Survivors will eventually be Drawn to the Colorado Springs area; some thinking it has to something to do with Space Command at Cheyenne Mountain, some thinking it's more about the Underground Habitats and connecting cave systems... most having no idea why, they just feel that they should go to that area. Those furthest away will feel this compulsion first, being Drawn to Colorado in general, but not The Springs area just yet.
      • The compulsion to 'escape their dead world' and the feeling that 'it's better somewhere else' may be intensified IF there are roving bands of Undead left behind by Victor Price aka Drow Vampire Mage Douche-Bag.
    • As the Survivors feel the pull to migrate, many will find that their Attitudes have changed; to start with, they will feel a need to stop fighting and hoarding, and have more of a willingness to communicate with others. Once they begin communicating, they will discover that they all have the same feelings and pull to go somewhere “in that direction”, and they will all be more willing to band together in order to find a way to this better life before things get worse.
    • Those closest to Colorado Springs will not feel the pull to migrate until Rafe arrives in The Springs area himself. Upon Rafe's first arrival in The Springs, ALL the Survivors world wide will be drawn to the Village Seven Neighborhood area of Colorado Springs and will feel a desire to remain there, but ONLY until each has learned how to 'escape from their dead world' and their options for a new life. Then each will feel a need to make a choice.
    • The Survivors may be surprised that they were right. They will definitely be surprised that it's not what they thought it was. However, they will ALL be very receptive to the idea of moving to 'an Earth next door' with Magic and Magical Races, opportunities for Fame & Fortune, Power & Influence, or just a place to start over with their surviving family, their new family gained in hardship or to start fresh and make a new family in a new world.
      • A very small percentage of the Survivors (Tree Huggers, Nature Conservationists, Outdoors People but not Hunters, and Druid-types), when discovering their option to leave Plague World, will suddenly feel a strong urge to stay and help 'Cleanse a Contaminated World left behind by Governmental Corruption that led to Corporate Greed, the Rape of the Planet and the Downfall of Mankind'. They want to see the Planet become a Garden of Eden once again, with only a few Guardians left behind to Protect and Care Take the World. (Shadow Miners for now and Potential Shadow Guardians later... may need to add points later too. hehe)
        • Any Circus Performers, Theater Types and Stunt Performers amongst the Survivors that encounter Rafe and his Crew will have a strong desire to join his traveling circus. When they find out that the Circus is a cover for a Band of Adventurers they will not have a problem with it at all, will be willing to help maintain 'the cover' and some might even want to join the Adventurers Band itself.
