Josephine's Steamer Trunk

Trunk Description

Because it is quite the behemoth, Josephine stows the trunk in a secure location and packs items from it in a more manageable valise that she carries with her. What Josephine is likely to have in the trunk is listed below but it is by no means an exclusionary list. The contents vary with Josephine's fortunes but when fully stocked, it's got everything she needs.

Valise

In which she packs things from her trunk for quick trips.

• A dark blue satin, bustled dinner gown, Princess seamed, short puff sleeves, wide shallow scoop neck. Black velvet trimming and black beading.
• 18-button gloves in dove grey kid
• three sets of men's formal evening wear suitable for dinner and theatre, complete with scarf, top hat, and gloves; sized to fit a person standing 5'-7" to 5'-9"; acquired in Paris, Aug 1867
