Overview
Bakuland is a barbaric country comprised of many disparate tribes and clans, which loosely federate over larger areas ruled by a warlord. The warlords of Bakuland fight constantly with each other in hopes of rising to the Bakh-a-Nur – The Chief of Chiefs, the Great Warlord of Bakuland.
This position comes and goes over the regions history, depending on the ability of one of the warlords to defeat enough of their rivals and bring the rest under their sway.
Currently, there is a Bakh-a-Nur', who notionally commands the loyalty of the warlords.
Bakuland is engaged in a war with Ûgozh to the north and with Axoria to the south. The wars have been costly and resulted in minimal gains and plunder, which is eating away at the Bakh-a-Nur’s prestige. The other warlords have detected weakness, and there are plots afoot to dispose the Bakh-a-Nur and either take the position or send the entire region into chaos again, its normal state of affairs.
History
Government
Culture & Society
Bakuland is a realm that is defined by it’s clan (bey) based structure.
There are five major clans in Bakuland, each of which has several sub-clans:
- Addu-Bey: The Addu-Bey are divided into three sub-clans
- Addu-Sem-Bey
- Addu-Suk-Bey
- Addu-Zo-Bey
- Yaddo-Bey: The Yaddo-Bey are divided into four sub-clans:
- Yaddo-Ig-Bey
- Yaddo-Bal-Bey
- Yaddo-Yir-Bey
- Yaddo-Muz-Bey
- Marru-Bey: The Marru-Bey have two sub-clans:
- Maru-Agr-Bey
- Maru-Anas-Bey
- Dormu-Bey: The Dormu-Bey have no sub-clans
- Bargha-Bey: The Bargha-Bey have three sub-clans
- Bargha-Nu-Bey
- Bargha-Naru-Bey
- Bargha-Asem-Bey
Religion
The Bakulanders have their own pantheon of gods that is worshipped nowhere else outside of their clan structure. There are several common gods that are worshipped across the clans and sub-clans; but each major clan has a minor god as their patron diety that is worshipped exclusively by that clan and its sub-clans.
The religion of the Bakulander’s is defined by combat and earning an honorable warrior’s death, combined with reincarnation into a new being whose status is defined by how its predecessor lived up to (or failed to live up to) the Baku’s warrior culture.
