Eberron is a place of many tremendously powerful items and devices that are mostly relics of the Demon War and other conflicts that wield powers well above Epic Level. This is a discussion of some of the items that have shown up in our games.

The Compass of Time

http://leeh.files.wordpress.com/2007/10/golden-compass.png

The object in question was created during the Dragon Wars by a combination of Angel and Draconic craftsmanship. It is an object that only eight exist of in the entirety of the world. All of them are under heavy lock and key in the Halls of Argonessan but for the one that's possessed by Ethan.

The Compass of Time was not meant to be used indefinitely by human hands, however, and using it more than once per day will result in the bearer losing 1 point of Wisdom for each additional use. Reflecting this, the subject begins to become irrationally obsessed with the compass and the secrets that it might hold. When a subject reaches 0 Wisdom, he automatically becomes gibbering insane and attempts to hide the compass in the most secure location imaginable.

The Compass of Time can perform an unlimited number of Legend Lore spells per day and can also Commune with an Eberron deity once per day.

The Sword of Eberron

The Sword of Eberron
Major Artifact

The Sword of Eberron is also known as Caliburn amongst other names. The blade is a Divine Artifact that was created by Siberys for the purposes of defending Eberron and was made from one of his Claws. The weapon, unfortunately, was broken when it was used to pierce the heart of Tiamat and bind that particular manifestation of Khyber in the darkness below. The Sword of Eberron broke into five separate pieces that each became weapons of their own. Collectively, they are known as the Five Swords of Eberron but this is a misnomer, the weapons have been reforged into a multitude of shapes through the millenia, the legendary Spear of Destiny' and Trident of The Devourer being amongst those forms.

The Swords are empowered to fight the evils of Eberron and each wield exceptional powers in doing so. They are, especially, dangerous to Evil Outsiders and Undead due to the fact that they are the preferred minions of Khyber. The Swords can be re-united due to the fact that each of them calls towards one another. However. until the essence of Khyber is fully cleansed from the swords, they will not be able to be kept merged for very long. Furthermore, they will enact a terrifying price from those who attempt to use them.

The Sword of Eberron has a Divine Spark and anyone who possesses the completed Sword of Eberron will gain a Divine Rank of 1. All wielders of the Swords gain a Divine Rank of 0 and cease aging amongst other benefits.

The Five Swords
Minor Artifacts

Demonslayer: Demonslayer, sometimes called the Holy Avenger or the King Maker, is a blade empowered to cut through demonic forces with ease when wielded by a holy warrior pure of heart. When not in the hands of the pure hearted it is still a powerful weapon.

Devil's Bane: Devil's Bane, known in Dhakaani as Nightmare's End, is an intelligent weapon born to cut through the lies and illusions of Devils, Delkyr and Quori. The sword grants the bearer the ability to sense the presence of entities currently possessing individuals and the ability to rescue those trapped within their own minds.

Dawn's Radiance: Dawn's Radiance, also know as the Sword of Light or the Sunsword, is the anti-thesis of the undead. When uncovered the blade lights up its surroundings as if in the noontime sun of a clear summer day. Legends speak of the power to unleash a beam of burning light known as the Flames of Dawn.

Spellvoid: The properties of Kerokash the Spellvoid are not full known, but are said to allow the bearer to cut through magic.

Dragonslayer: Dragonslayer claims the power to cleave through the adamant scales of dragons as if they warm butter. While carried the wielder does not need to fear dragon's breath in any of it's forms.

Special

The full capacities of the Sword of Eberron is not yet known. When only four blades were united the incomplete blade was able to release a blast of supernatural Dragon Fire that would rival the breath of even the oldest of Red or Gold Dragons. After the attack was completed the wielder found himself blind as a result (though this might have been from the light of the flames). It is suspected that there are other abilities of equivalent power still undiscovered.

The Chalice of Bahamut

The Chalice of Bahamut is a relic that caught the blood of Bahamut as he was bleeding from his wounds during the epic confrontation with Tiamat. The object became infused with some of his divine essence and this was increased as the Dragons began to worship the item as one of their most venerated objects.

Ultimately, the Chalice of Bahamut was stolen by the Ascendant Green Dragon known as Vol. Vol was one of the many remnants of Khyber, one of her Consorts no less, that was still alive after the Demon Wars but feared the retaliation against the "Archangel of Death." The Chalice was recovered by the Deathless before somehow being lost on Khorvaire where it ended up in the hands of the Dhakaani and later humans.

The Chalice of Bahamut became intimately associated with both Dol Arrah and the Silver Flame, despite having nothing to do with either and is a holy relic of humans as much as Dragons. In their blind devotion to the prophecy, the Dragons never realized the human relic was actually their own.

The Chalice bestows Divine Rank 1 on any Outsider that possesses it.

Powers

  • Any Lawful Good Fighter or Warrior who drinks from the Chalice may exchange his Levels for those of a Paladin.

  • The Chalice can be used to perform Resurrection on any subject.

  • Holy Water that is poured into the Chalice will inflict x10 its normal damage.

  • The Chalice can perform Create Food/Water an unlimited times per day.

The Sword of Khyber

The Sword of Khyber

Major Artifact

The antithesis of the Sword of Eberron. It was forged from the remains of Tiamat, Khyber's final manifestation upon Eberron, when she was struck down by the Sword of Eberron. Many names have been given to it over the millenia, but it has forever caused nothing but Evil. It has been broken and reforged many times, the Dragons and Couatl trying time and again to keep the blade from returning, the most recent manifestation of it broken by Siber upon his redemption. The five swords that resulted from its fragmenting each carry an aspect of the Dragon Below, twisting any who come into contact with it.

Unlike the defensive nature of the Swords of Eberron, each designed to battle various minions of Khyber, the Swords of Khyber exist only to destroy and corrupt. Only the strongest of wills are able to tame the swords, though they are always on the lookout for opportunites to seize control.

The Sword of Khyber is also a Divine Spark, though a piece of Khyber rather than Siberys. The full sword gives a Divine Rank of 1, and the lesser pieces grant a Divine Rank of 0. A wielder ceases to age, and is granted extraordinary abilities in exchange for slowly tainting their immortal soul.

The 5 Swords of Khyber

Minor Artifacts

Deathlord: Also called the Sword of Vengeance, it feeds off of hate and anger and turns it into Dark Energy, cutting down any who stand before it. Legends speak of the unmitigated carnage it can create, and it is often associated with the Fury.

Talon of Khyber: The Sword of Corruption, its touch can twist the weak into more of the foul creatures that serve the Dragon Below, making a mockery of the life upon Eberron for its own amusement. Though it is often mistaken for a sword forged by the Daelkyr, when it is properly identified in history, the name of the Mockery is close by.

Nightmare's Touch: The Sword of Fear, it clouds the mind and fools the senses. It can sieze upon and amplify all that its targets fear, making them destroy themselves from within more often than not. The Shadow is often invoked in its use, the chaos and carnage it produces seen as manifestations of his power.

Flesh Eater: The Sword of Desire. It can amplify the greed, lust, and obsession for that which the target most desires. It has often been used to create vast Cults of Personality, and is often associated with the Keeper.

Blood Drinker: It is the Sword of Slaughter, delighting not in the effects upon the living like its brethren, but in the deaths it causes. To end a life with this blade is to know an unholy joy. The Devourer is most strongly associated with this weapon's destructive impulses.
