Overview

This page is a Lore Sheet for Wok of the Ascendant Chef, a set of Magics relating to the use of kung fu sorcery to enhance cooking to astonishing degrees.

Prerequisites

First, it is not possible to practice this martial art without skill in cookinh. To represent this, a Xia must first have taken the specialised skill Chef to be able to learn any of the techniques on this style sheet.

Secondly, it is not possible to practice this martial art without adequate ingredients, cooking utensils and a kitchen. Master chefs are presumed to carry around pouches of useful spices, and can make the most of most kitchens, but a bare minimum of fresh foodstuffs, a flame to cook on and a wok will still be needed.

Note that for these preparations to have their magical effects, the food must be eaten just after it has been cooked. Reheated rations still might taste okay, but the powerful chi effects will be long faded.

Classic Taste Combination

Effect: This cookery spell takes one hour to prepare, and on the substances completion it must be splashed directly onto the object to be consumed. It cannot be stored, as it will eat away anything it is stored in! For the next minute or so, the liquid will eat away at anything it comes into contact with, with sufficient speed that in that minute it could fully dispose of a dozen corpses, or an iron gate.

Fortune's Wind Infinite Wealth Elixirs

Autumn leaves and the hair of healthy children both represent growth and change, leaving behind what was for fortune to come. The elixir of change is powerful magic! Making gold is just a fortunate side effect.

Effect: This alchemical spell takes one hour to prepare and must be used immediately. Apply the reagent to any base metal to turn it into another base metal. For example, you could turn lead to gold, or silver into iron.

Note that if a player character wants to use this secret to become ridiculously wealthy, then he can do so! To gain any advantage from being so wealthy, however, would require him to purchase an appropriate Major Edge with XP.

Inner Thunder Aphrodisiacs

The reduced powder of the sexual organs of potent animals, or the horns of powerful creatures, mixed with still-hot embers and the blood of a warrior. Potency guaranteed.

Effect: This alchemical spell takes one hour to prepare and must be consumed immediately. Women who drink the potion are unaffected, but men will find that they are filled with sexual energy and have powerful and sustained libido and "male stiffness". This effect lasts for six or seven hours, or until lusts are fully sated.

Good Ole Rustic Cooking

Forget that fancy stuff the city chefs talk about! This is how my grandmother made beef brisket stew. Doesn't that smell good?

Herbal broth, emetics, laxatives and soups. Taken together, they purge sickness from the body.

The target is healed of any illness, has all poison purged from his body and any detrimental magics or chi effects affecting him will be washed out.

Fog in a Bottle

Water, plus Yin Chi, plys the proper techniques.

Effect: This alchemical spell takes one hour to prepare and a further one hour for the effect to spread. The alchemist creates an area of thick fog - in the open this will spread to cover several square miles. The fog will usually take several hours to clear, and make vision beyond a dozen feet distance impossible. Strong winds can clear the mist faster.

Mountain Stillness Hibernation Draught

Soporifics, sedatives and stabilisers are used, and the masque of death is achieved.

Effect: This alchemical spell takes one hour to prepare and a further one hour to fully take effect on the one who ingests it. The ingester will fall into a deep coma, which is so great that they appear to have died altogether, even under medical scrutiny. They will awake a fixed period of time later (defined by the alchemist) which can be as little as an hour or as long as a month. They suffer no harm from this condition itself, needing only a minimum of breathable air and no water or food, but during that time are entirely unrousable.

Prerequisites: You can only learn this kung fu secret if you have first learnt all of the eight other alchemical secrets.

Effect: All your Alchemy spells reduce preparation times to one round, and replaces the Preparation keyword with the Action keyword. The spells still take the same amount of time to take effect, however.
