Liam d'Ghallanda Halfling Artificer 12

A scion of House Ghallanda with the Lesser Mark, Liam is quite the scholar. He graduated at the top of his class from Morgraive University with a B.S. in Magi. Sci., with a minor in Applied Artifice. He is doing research for his Doctorate Degree aboard the Forgotten Freedom. His study is taking in all the "abnormal" aspects of life on the Forgotten Freedom: the Ubers, the extradimensional spaces, the various experiments performed by the crew, and the nigh-constant state of insanity.

Liam is not a part of the crew, but a passenger, actually paying Jarlot to fly on the ship. This has brought his sanity into question on numerous occasions. He can often be found interviewing the crew, from the newest redshirt up to the Ubers themselves.

When not working on various devices to detect and/or harness the general weirdness of the Forgotten Freedom, or interviewing the crew, he can be found helping out in the kitchen, voluntarily. He has added much diversity to the menu, simply by using prestidigitation on the food.

Liam has completed his project, the Weirsan Converter. Simply put, it generates power from the insanity happening in the general vicinity, in this case, the Forgotten Freedom. An interesting quirk of the Weirsan Converter is that the fact that it generates a small, but not inconsequential, amount of power.

While bored, Liam began experimenting with various wands and staves and a Weirsan Receiver. This resulted, through the inspiration of his Entity, in the creation of the Duct Tape Swarm. Liam uses the Swarm as an errand boy and to help him in the lab.

So far, Liam has made a few devices powered by Weirsan Energy.

  • DM Breaker Series - Created by Kanatash using a prototype Weirsan Converter. The only Weirsan device not created by Liam.
  • Weirsan Reciever - Converts the Weirsan Energy into power for a wand or other charged magic item. Can be exceedingly dangerous at higher settings.
  • Weirsan Signature Map - A three-dimensional illusory model of the Forgotten Freedom, with the various Weirsan Signatures of the crew displayed within. Liam has studied it long enough that he recognizes each individual signature.
  • Weirsan Shield - Shield generator with local area Weirsan Converter. Generates a shield with strength based on the Weirsan Output of the opponent and wearer. First employed by Satnak against Pun-Pun.
  • Weirsan Negator - A device which locks onto a target's Weirsan Signature, and broadcasts an inverse signature, neutralizing all weirdness or insanity of the target. First employed by Liam against the Riven during the trial of Satnak. Effects on living creatures unknown. Theorized that the target may become a human accountant with no magical ability.
  • Weirsan Planar Synchronizer - A device which generates a short area manifest zone of a plane that the device is given a sample of. First employed by Terrek to create a manifest zone of his plane during the trial of Satnak.
  • Weirsan Battery Overload - Not so much a device as a malfunctioning device, when a Weirsan Battery overloads, it "arcs", causing a completely random output. The two instances of this so far have resulted in a giant, sentient, pink and purple polka-dotted duck and a green and orange striped wolf.
  • Weirsan Cascade Engine - Created after the discovery of the Weirsan Battery Overload, the Cascade Engine was designed to generate these on purpose. Within a 3-foot-thick lead box, the Cascade Engine uses a small amount of Weirsan to create a small warp in the fabric of space/time within the box. It uses the Weirsan generated by this warp to create another warp. As more and more warps are created, more Weirsan is generated, and the warps can be larger or more numerous, or the Weirsan can be siphoned off to be put to better use.
  • Weirsan Probability Drive - Liam's piece d'resistance, the Probability Drive could possibly be the most powerful device ever created. Using the nearly infinite power output from the Cascade Engine, it generates a slight shift in probability. It consists of two components, a bracer that Liam wears that connects to the Probability Drive, which can calculate the probability of most any event, as well as the required power from the Cascade Engine, within seconds. The bracer then transmits the precise probability to the Probabilty Drive Control Unit, which invokes that specific probability and possibility. Back-up systems are included to prevent events with similar probabilites from occurring with a single use of the Probability Drive, but these systems are unreliable at best.
