Wild Woods Overview

Treasure[edit]

Rumors[edit]

  • There's some sort of great beast stalking the woods outside of Kimrid. No one is sure what it is, having only caught glimpses of it through the trees, and any tracks it leaves behind are confusing to read. Perhaps a great bear, one of the ancient, cave-dwelling beasts of the forest primeval, has moved south, or perhaps a cougar has gotten the taste of Man? Regardless, there is a bounty of one thousand gold "luks" on the creature's head.
  • A grizzled prospector arrived in Kimrid a few days previous, flashing enough gold nuggets around to live in luxury for the rest of his days. That is apparently not enough wealth for him, as he is offering to sell the location of his mine for two hundred gold luks.
  • A caravan is looking for an escort north to the ironfolk city of Draea. They've apparently had a hard time finding mercenaries to hire on, and have put the word out for any adventuring parties in the area. It's not good money, but it should be a relatively safe gig, as there haven't been many reports of troubles on the road north recently.
  • Several deer-folk are in Kimrid, searching for adventurers willing to accompany them into the wastes of the Sable Principality. Their kind specializes in scavenging for treasure on the surface, but they've apparently discovered some ruins that extend deep into the earth, and the cerves are notoriously claustrophobic underground.
  • Torthuk Two-toes, an expert in antiquities and rare objects, is seeking adventurers to explore a burial complex he claims to have discovered. He's cagey about the details, but it sounds like there is a particular item he is interested in, and has determined that it is located in these ruins.
  • Rumors have arrived in Kimrid from Ward, in the Taar Hills, that a dragon has taken up residence in the lost ruins of Maknor and is raising an army of servants.
  • The ironfolk city of Draea is to the north of Kimrid. Driven south from their ancestral homelands at the beginning of the last Cycle, and settling here, the ironfolk still tell tales of the fall of the great city of Isenden, and the horror that destroyed it in a single night. It was this nameless horror that caused the ironfolk to flee their home, and there are whispers from travelers that whatever lurks in the fallen city of Isenden is spreading.
  • A great dragon, called Tlaskydar, has taken up residence in the ruins of Hanaid, a city that once housed a College of Magic before it was ruined. All indications are that the ruins on the surface had been picked clean by cerves before Tlaskydar claimed it as their own, but there are undoubtable underground vaults that remain unexplored.
    • Thufiq indicates this is in Hex 93.17
  • The Bottomless Lake formed at the end of the war, where the Deres and Swift rivers met. Before that, the two joined and continued east, until they eventually reached the Deep Ocean and the Alabaster Principality. Now only a dry riverbed remains east of the Lake, and no one knows what happens to the immense amount of water that flows into the lake. There are reports of some unknown creature, or creatures, that dwell within the icy, deep waters of the Lake.
  • The Ebony Blades, a band of brigands formed from the remnants of the Sable Principality house guard, have been raiding outlying settlements of late, although they have yet to attack Gifukrum.
  • Thufiq is a member of House Raven. Once one of the royal families of Sable, it is now primarily a mercantile consortium. He advises the adventurers to seek out his sister, Hama, should they find themselves in Gifukrum.
  • Thufiq warns the adventurers of the presence of a gang of thieves and pickpockets operating in Gifukrum. "Keep a tight hand on your coinpurses," he says, "and whatever you do, don't seek lodging at the Speckled Grouse, for it is owned by a ranking member, and unsuspecting guests find themselves robbed, or worse."
