Civilization[edit]

Port Freedom is one of the stellar nations. Tidas is the only inhabited planet. It was simple to terraform and is now "Earth-like". The planet's natural atmosphere was toxic, but the planet also contained native single celled life. By changing the atmosphere humans made the planet uninhabitable to its native life. As a result, the planet has a number of large bio-domes that simulate the planets original condition and contain the last living specimens of its native inhabitants.

People and Culture[edit]

The people of Port Freedom are known as Freemen. Freemen have all shaded of skin and hair but pale skin and light hair tends to be slightly prevalent. They speak Solar, but have developed a slight accent that is recognizable to those who are familiar with it.

The culture is based on democratic ideas and concepts like freedom and liberty are very important. The people pride themselves on their even tempered nature and their openness to other cultures. Some citizens have argued that the people of Port Freedom do not have a sense of identity of their own, but only see themselves through their interaction with others. This movement has picked up steam in recent years.

History[edit]

Terraforming of Tidas began in 2202. The system was intended to be a joint colony along with Celt under the control of Sol, Halo, and Pharaoh. Shortly after colonizing began the aliens known as the T’sa were discovered in a nearby system. This discovery of an advanced alien race resulted in a tense political situation with regards to trade rights with the T’sa.

During this situation I.C.S. and Eberon both took aggressive actions which started the Stellar War. In 2212 both Port Freedom was attacked by combined forces from Eberon and I.C.S. The attack was repelled by forces on Port Freedom. At the conclusion of the Stellar War the Treaty of Port Freedom was signed on Port Freedom. Among other stipulations in the treaty, Port Freedom becomes an independent nation in its own right.

After the war a Galactic Senate is formed and its headquarters is placed on Port Freedom. Since that time Port Freedom has become the diplomatic center of the galaxy.

Galactic Senate[edit]

The Galactic Senate is the hub of stellar politics. Each member nation of the Galactic Alliance is allowed three representatives on the senate. In a typical hearing, the senators will listen to testimony from diplomats and experts on a particular issue for several hours or several days. At the end of the testimony, each senator will vote on the issue. Because of the large number of cases before the senate it is very common for multiple cases to be heard simultaneously.

In 2314 a false accusation made by a senator implied that a secret alliance existed between Halo and Eberon. At the same time the Republican Party of Celt were refusing to join the alliance, and I.C.S. was arguing that senate restrictions on trade in the frontier was hampering its ability to provide weapons and security services to the colonies. The weren Federation was also unhappy about the situation.

During this conflict the speaker of the house was assassinated and a diplomat from Halo was killed while in custody. Eberon, ICS, and the Weren Federation all left the Alliance, and the senate was suspended.

Order of Masks[edit]

The Order of Masks, is a secret society that may or may not exist. Regardless, the Order is a popular subject for entertainment and conspiracy theorists. The Order was supposedly founded as a network of spies that operated out of Port Freedom during the Galactic War. After the war ended and the senate was formed, certain members of the senate continued to rely on information gained by remaining members of the spy network, and even made efforts to expand the organization. Over the next few years this lose network of spies became a full fledged secret society supporting and supported by select members of the Port Freedom Government.

It is also believed that the order keeps a vast library of its findings, the location of this library is hotly debated among conspiracy theorists.
