"Across the field the dagger flies, though none notice it till it is almost at its target. The hapless soldier parries with its shield, but as it spins away it curves back in, and slams into his side. The killing hornet sting strikes again!"

Overview[edit]

This page is a Lore Sheet for the Killing Hornet Sting, a set of Wushu Secrets that specialise in ranged attacks.

These techniques can only be used for physical conflict.

The attack techniques on this Lore Sheet can only be used for ranged physical attacks. A practitioner must have a ranged weapon to benefit from this fighting style - this can be a thrown dagger, a bow and arrow, or just whatever throwing weapon comes to hand.

There are no defence techniques on this Lore Sheet!

Note that because so few stances allow you to make ranged attacks it can actually be something of a disadvantage to select this as your primary fighting style, but learning these kung fu secrets can add a multitude of combat options in certain circumstances.

Find The Way[edit]

You don't need a clear line of sight to make a ranged attack. Awareness of arcs, deflection, curve shots and spin allow you to work around such petty concerns as line of effect and intervening obstacles.

Cost: 1 Yang Chi.

Keywords: Attack; Modifier; Physical; Concentration;

Effect: This ranged attack does not need line of sight, and is not impeded at all by obstacles or cover. There must, however, be a path (however complex) that the projectile can reach its target.

Long Shot[edit]

No ordinary man can throw a dagger a mile distant... but then you are not an ordinary man.

Cost: 1 Yang Chi.

Keywords: Attack; Modifier; Physical; Concentration;

Effect: This ranged attack can be made to any range at any target that you can see. You suffer no penalty for range. Note that magical scrying, indirect remote viewing or otherwise being vaguely aware of where someone is does not count - you must be able to draw a direct line of sight. Also, the kung fu secret Find the Way does not allow you to bypass the line of sight requirement for this attack, though it would allow you to attack without line of effect or cover considerations (so for example, combining Find the Way with Long Shot would let you make a long range attack against a target stood behind a transparent obstacle, or just visible over cover.)

The Deadly Arrow[edit]

When the sniping martial artist is unarmed, save for his teacup and a pair of chopsticks... well, he's not really unarmed at all.

Cost: 1 Yang Chi.

Keywords: Attack; Modifier; Physical; Concentration;

Effect: You can make a ranged attack with any item that you can throw, and suffer no penalty for doing so. A thrown chopstick in your hands is just as deadly as a crossbow bolt!
