Common

A common language spoken throughout the Athernian peninsula across boarders by common folk.

Athernian

Spoken primarily by the nobility of Athervon.

  • Défau-a-Ves - literally, "Court of Cards"; a game played with a deck of cards, usually for money that is bet in rounds.
  • Ôres - Queen
  • Ôron - King

Veniri

Used heavily in Tras Veniri, and by the noble houses of Veniri.

Anidan

Language of Anida; very popular on the southern coast of Athernian peninsula.

  • (Aca)Suño/(Aca)Siña: polite address, i.e., (Young) Sir or (Young) Madam;
  • cuchua: slang derogatory term referencing female genitalia
  • idejo: slang derogatory term questioning ones bloodline, i.e. bastard

  • Sáwd´ihr: "shape-shifter"; used for were-creatures and other things that change shape; sometimes used as a general term for a monster
  • Sah: vulgar slang term for "understand?", usually used at the end of a command, instruction, or statement of fact.
  • şayb: Traditional woman’s dress worn for travelling – ankle-length, heavy draped fabrics with loose, slit open sleeves that can be tied to make a pack for goods or carrying children
  • marfaah: traditional headdress for travelling in the desert; unisex; covers the entire face save a slit for the eyes, protecting from wind and sun
  • maqra-jī-masraīf: The Sea of Sand; the huge desert that separates Jhon from much of the rest of the Lands

  • hændúl - "frozen flower"; it grows only in the high peaks of the mountains, and even there, it is rare. A thing of the spirit world, that for mortals portends great fortune - or just as often, great calamity. Sometimes required by priests and shaman of the barbarian clans for rituals or ceremonies.
  • ljósálfar - mountain spirit - the name given by the woegir to the fey and mystical spirits that roam their lands that are not of the spirit animals or ancestral variety.
