Shadaar[edit]

A well built middle aged (32) man. Shadows seem to coalesce and shift around him. His brown hair is worn to shoulder length and he has a full beard and moustache with just a hint of grey. His deep set eyes are a dark brown, nearly black, yet gentle and take in the world around him with a savage curiosity. His face is creased, tanned, and tells of a rough life spent fighting. He doesn't seem to care what his clothing is, as long as it is functional and does not get in his way. He carries no visible weapons or armor.

Background[edit]

I was born in [small village near Elsin] and I am the eldest sibling of a sister and a brother. Life was relatively free of influence from the Shadow in such a small village and as such I was given a rare opportunity for a carefree childhood. But all of that changed the day that my mother went to the river to laundry our clothing and brought all of her children with her. On that day my childhood was ruined. I was age 16, my brother 8, and my sister 4. That was the day a Fell jumped out of the river and tore my mother down, followed by another Fell that ripped my sister apart, as she was playing at my mother's feet. My brother and I were perhaps 80 feet away and turned, at the sounds of howls and cries of tortured pain, to see our family being eaten alive and torn asunder. My brother and I stood stunned in absolute terror, until I managed to pull my brother away from the scene and run towards the village screaming and tears running down our faces. The Fell did not follow us and my father ran out with a club in hand to face down the Fell. But it was too late, and we later found out that the bodies of my sister and mother were never recovered...

Shortly after my father was drafted into the Shadow's army and I was too young to realize the consequences of this action. He sent my brother and I away to our uncle in Al Kadil. There we grew up and learned of the oppression of the free under the Shadow, and of the rebels in the resistance to which he was a part.

Once I was of age I joined the resistance with my whole heart and left my uncle's caring side. I ended up moving around with my band of resistance fighters all over Erenland, ambushing small troop movements and camps for the last 10, or so, years. Eventually, in a bizarre set of circumstances, I ended up infiltrating Cambrial to... [to be continued]

10 questions[edit]

  • Describe what your hero's glorious death might be.
    • Having rallied the Erenlanders under a united flag (with the help of his allies), he faces down the forces of the Shadow. His last fleeting vision is that of the Enemy's forces being routed and run down on the southern shore of the Sea of Pelluria, before his soul is finally freed of the fetter of his undead body.
  • Describe what your hero's worst fated death at the hands of [the ENEMY] might be.
    • Legates, using the power of the Corpse-god Izrador, subsume his will using foul magic. And make him do any number of horrible things against his will, and then he is left to rot in a crows-cage and many many years later he finally dies as his flesh rots off of him and his brain decays into madness.
  • What is the worst thing [the Shadow] could do to your hero? (this could include things done to loved ones)
    • Using the state of his undeath a Legate crushes his will by channeling the power of Izrador, making him do horrible things in the name of the Corpse-God (ie. being Rebuked).
  • Describe a victory that your hero would like to have against [the Shadow].
    • To be a part in the liberation of all the lands south of the Pellurian Sea.
  • What action would your hero never do?
    • Sex with animals? Well, there was that one time...
  • What would cause your hero to break down to sadness or fear?
    • The loss of all hope - seeing that nothing he does can aid the Free.
    • Hearing or seeing the loss of his [3x3 Friends]. All of them mean the world to him.
    • Finding out his mother and sister are Fell.
  • What do you hope your hero's honorific would be?
    • The Undaunted - for his resolute devotion to the resistance, and his unbrakable will to fight no matter what cost to himself.
  • What would it take for your hero to turn traitor? (these can result from bribe or blackmail)
    • Being tricked - if the Shadow could convince him that what he was doing was for good, but ultimately it was not.
    • He (possibly) could turn traitor, for a short time, if his [3x3 Friends] were theatened with "worse than death".
  • PLAYER: What's your favorite monster or NPCs to fight?!!
    • "Humanoids" - they think, talk, and are (usually) not so alien. Although an occasional monster is really good for the creepy or "crap what is that thing?!" factor.
  • PLAYER: What do you most enjoy about RPGs & D&D? (meaning battling monsters, solving puzzles, political roleplaying, etc..?)
    • I enjoy all of those in moderation. Not a very good answer, but the only one I can think to give. It also depends on the character I am playing at the time though.
    • Scenes and plots that are memorable and could fit into a good movie.
    • I suppose I should also reiterate that I love it when the chips are down, my character is beaten bloody, but somehow manages to pull out a victory [also known as the "Die Hard" effect].

3x3[edit]

Contacts[edit]

  • Rontabont Mur: [Gnome smuggler] A friend of my uncle's. He helped out my brother and myself once when we got into trouble in Alvedara. Always chewing on a pipe of Halfling tobbacco. I always thought Gnomes were supposed to be friendly, but this Gnome is a surly one.
  • Elmgrim Farhorn: [Dwarf resistance fighter] Joined our little resistance group for a short time. He left one day saying that his path was elsewhere. He is jolly and quite reedy for a dwarf (not that Shadaar knows this). He seemed to always have some nice story to tell around the campfire at night. It was thought that he was a Kurgun, but he never confirmed or denied it. It was even jokingly said that he was some sort of exiled Dwarf royalty, but he never confirmed or denied it.
  • Molk Osgood: [Resistance Leader] A falsified name for a man always on the run. Shadaar never found out his real name as he plays things close to his chest. He is the resistance leader for the cell that I was a part of. A bit of an enigma, he is adept at getting through check points and seems to evade notice everywhere he goes. I can hardly remember what he looked like, as he was always changing his appearance and mannerisms.

Allies[edit]

  • Rakari? Radek?[Brother] My best and closest friend. He joined the resistance shortly after me, and long before he should have, as he was only 14. He has since joined with a group, some might say thieves guild, in [Sharuun?] were he hopes to make a difference.
  • Kharissa Halnares: [Ex-lover] Passionate lover and now good friend. We talked often of marrying and settling down, but in our hearts we both knew that my passion was fighting against the Shadow. She does what she can to aid the resistance, usually by informing the resistance of troop movements. Recently she has married a man named Hareth Halnares who runs a roadside inn named Hareth's Hearth.
  • Morragan: [Uncle] Brother of my father. He is a kind and gentle man at the twilight of his life. He helps out the resistance where he can, but retired from any derring do. He maintains his public identity of a simple Locksmith.

Enemies[edit]

  • Theldrick: [Father] An older man of 50, he has short grey hair and a nicely trimmed goatee. Recruited by the Shadow he went off to fight wars for the Enemy. He is based out of Erenhead, although recently he was given a promotion and now leads a unit. Once a warm man, he was crushed by the death of his wife and when the forces of the Enemy came to his small village he didn't resist being conscripted into the Shadow's service. Now he performs his duties with cold precision. His life as a soldier has quelled some of his pain of losing his wife.
  • Kurlag: [Orc]
  • Hareth Halnares: [Innkeeper] Husband to Kharissa Halnares. He knows that his wife was a part of the resistance, but he doesn't like it. And she keeps it secret that she still passes along information to them. While he wouldn't go so far as to turn in her old comrades, he sure wouldn't stick out his neck to keep them safe either. And he does not like me, for obvious reasons.
  • Mikkela Vanderin: [Resistance fighter] A woman in her late 20s with short straw colored hair. She had a tumultous affair with Shadaar and now has something of a fatal attraction to him. Shadaar's single-minded passion against the Enemy brought a wedge between them that she refuses to acknowledge. She has a fiery temper, is a skilled fighter, and is tough as nails. Recently she has sought out Shadaar's brother to try and cause jealousy. She is only a small step from "if I can't have you, then nobody can".

Locations[edit]

  • Hareth's Hearth: [Roadside Inn] Located at a perfect spot about a day between [two towns]. The inn sees a lot of soldiers staying here, and as such, it has a peculiar amount of orc and goblin paraphernalia decorating the inn. (Possibly somewhere between Zorgetch and Alvedara?)

Find out how to put Shadaar's picture in the upper right hand corner (HINT, HINT).

Any thoughts on the [small village near Elsin] name?

I need a last name for Shadaar's family...

Well, crap. Now I want to play Elmgrim Farhorn! :)
