Class Features[edit]

The following are class features of the Fiend of Manipulation prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiencies[edit]

The Fiend of Manipulation gains no proficiency with any weapons, armor or shields.

Alternate Form (Su)[edit]

An Abyssal Chancellor has the ability to assume any humanoid form of small to large size as a standard action. This ability is similar to the ‘Polymorph Self’ spell, but allows only humanoid forms. While using this ability, the Fiend of Manipulation gains a +10 circumstance bonus to disguise checks.

Fiend’s Investiture (Su)[edit]

An Abyssal Chancellor is adept at speaking through others, deflecting suspicion and manipulating friend and foe alike. By touching a willing character, the Fiend may invest some of his ranks in any Charisma-based skill into the target. The Fiend temporarily loses these ranks, and the target gains an equivalent amount. The duration of this ability is permanent, but the Fiend may take back his invested ranks at will. The Fiend may invest a total number of ranks equal to his Charisma modifier, and this total may be distributed among multiple targets. While a character is under the Fiend’s investiture, the Fiend may monitor the target as through a ‘Status’ spell.

Oath of Fealty (Su)[edit]

At 2nd level, the Abyssal Chancellor gains the ability to perform a ritual that binds a target to his service. The ritual forges a magical, mental bond between the Fiend and the subject. The ritual requires that the Fiend spend one hour alone with the subject, and that the subject be willing (A dominated or compelled creature does not count as willing for this purpose, though a charmed, duped or ignorant creature does). Once the ritual is complete, it is inviolate, and the Fiend’s mark appears in an inconspicuous location on the subject’s body. The binding ritual has several effects: Firstly, the Fiend and the subject may communicate telepathically at any range. The telepathic bond remains active even if the Fiend and/or subject are bodiless. This ability requires concentration, and is treated as maintaining a spell for purposes of distraction, attacks of opportunity, etc. Secondly, the Fiend may use its mental awareness of those it has marked to sense their location. This ability functions as per the spell ‘Locate Creature’ and may be used at will. Thirdly, subjects bound to the Fiend by an Oath of Fealty automatically fail will saves against possession attempts by the Fiend.

Fiend’s Favor (Su)[edit]

Three times per day, an Abyssal Chancellor can grant a touched willing creature a +3 bonus to one of its ability scores. This bonus stacks with any other bonus the creature may already have and lasts for one day. When the effect expires, the creature takes a -3 penalty to the same ability score for the next day. Another application of Fiend’s Favor not only negates the penalty, but restores the full bonus. While under the effect of Fiend’s Favor, a character receives a -3 penalty to any will save made to resist a spell or effect cast by the Fiend of Manipulation. This penalty increases by an additional -1 for each consecutive day the creature has benefitted from the Fiend’s Favor.

Guarded Thoughts (Su)[edit]

At third level, an Abyssal Chancellor gains complete immunity to Detect Thoughts, Discern Lies and any attempt to magically discern its alignment.

Fiend’s Gift (Su)[edit]

At 3rd level, an Abyssal Chancellor can use a power similar to the Cleric spell ‘Imbue with Spell Ability’ to transfer one or more of its spell-like abilities to one or more willing targets. The Fiend can grant a creature any number of its spell-like abilities, though it loses one use per day for each use it grants to another. An ‘at will’ ability that is granted is useable only four times per day thereafter. All variable characteristics of the ability (including caster level and save DC) are determined as if the Fiend were using the ability. The Fiend may revoke this transfer at any time. An ability withdrawn by the Fiend is considered to have been spent by the Fiend regardless of whether or not the original subject has actually used the ability. While under the effect of Fiend’s Gift, the subject is telepathically bound to the fiend as per Oath of Fealty above, though this effect ends when the Gift is revoked. If the subject of the gift is already bound to the Fiend by an Oath of Fealty, the Fiend can continually detect the thoughts of the subject, as per the ‘Detect Thoughts’ spell.

Watchful Master (Sp)[edit]

At 4th level, the Abyssal Chancellor gains the ability to scry on those whom he has bound with an Oath of Fealty, as if he were using a ‘Scrying’ spell. This ability requires no scrying focus. The Fiend may use this ability on any given subject once per day, though there is no limit to the number of subjects upon which he may scry.

Fiend’s Exaltation (Su)[edit]

At 4th level, the Abyssal Chancellor can grant a great boon to his most favored mortal servants. By anointing a subject with his blood and performing an hour-long ritual, the Abyssal Chancellor may imbue a subject with demonic energies, corrupting and empowering the target, granting the ‘Fiendish’ template. The ritual may only be performed on a willing creature that has been bound to the Fiend with an Oath of Fealty, and only the most devoted and perhaps deranged individuals seek this boon. Those the Fiend has exalted are continually treated as if under the effects of Fiend’s Gift, Fiend’s Favor and Fiend’s Investiture for purposes of the Fiend’s ability to monitor and communicate with them. This ritual is draining for the Fiend and if less than one week has elapsed since a previous usage, the ritual deal 1d6 points of Charisma damage and 1d4 points of Constitution damage to the Fiend. This damage can only be healed through rest.

Call to Master (Sp)[edit]

At 5th level, the Abyssal Chancellor gains the ability to grant his vassals the ability to summon him to them. This ability functions similarly to the Fiend’s Gift, and may only be bestowed on a willing subject who has been bound to the Fiend with an Oath of Fealty. The Fiend may grant uses of this ability equal to 1+ his Charisma Modifier. This ability functions similarly to the calling function of a ‘Gate’ spell, but with several important modifications; the spell may only be used to call the Abyssal Chancellor, the Fiend is automatically uncontrolled, and there is no XP cost required. While a subject is possessed of this ability, the Fiend may telepathically compel the subject as per the ‘Suggestion’ spell three times per day. If the Fiend is bodiless, calling him is more difficult; a ritual is required, involving at least three subjects, each of whom must possess the call to master ability. This ritual must begin at dawn and continue, uninterrupted, until sunset. Additionally, the ritual subjects must prepare a humanoid host suitable for possession by the Fiend; this subject need not be willing, but must be restrained or otherwise helpless during the full ritual duration.
