Seige Perilous'[edit]
A M&M Third Edition Superhero Game
People are people.
If you'd listened to the Filmmakers of the 1950s, we would have had massive riots and panic.
If you'd listened to the TV creators of the 1990s, the government(s) would have successfully covered it all up.
But that's not what happened when, on January 1, 2020, hundreds of arches suddenly appeared across the world, dozens or scores in every country, all made of a metal that nothing we have can touch.
We didn't panic, our governments didn't - couldn't - cover it up.
No. We, the ever curious animal, experimented.
It didn't take long to figure out what they did. Whoever had placed them had been kind enough to include an elevator pitch, and a warning.
Whoever you are, when you walk through an arch, something you don't like about yourself is changed.
But there are side effects. No one gets a completely 'free' change.
Sometimes, the side effects are as bad or worse than what was changed. Sometimes they're annoying, but something you can live with. Sometimes (rarely) they're a major change - the walker gets some kind of superhuman ability.
People are people. The arches see a lot of business, even though they're heavily guarded and quarantined.
