Charcter Files/Meta Currencies

I will update the Character Table on the wiki each time I update the IC thread. Please do not update the table yourselves. I don't want anyone losing Plot Points or Hero Dice from double subtraction.

If you feel I have forgotten to update the table or that my math is wrong, let me know OOC or DM me and I will fix it. Likewise, if I make a mistake on the Character/GM Complications/Assets lists, let me know and I'll fix it. These also get updated when I update the IC thread.

Game Premise

You are a Shadowwalker, a mortal who has been touched by the supernatural. Touched and changed. There aren't many like you, and each shadowwalker is different from the next in deep and fundamental ways.

That said, some things remain true of all shadowwalkers. You are no longer a mere mortal, no longer frail and small. No longer insignificant. The power of a specific supernatural bloodline courses through your veins, giving you the ability to stand, however briefly, between the supernatural and mortal realms.

Character Generation

You are welcome to use the following Template for your character sheet or replace it with your own format. Just make sure everything is clearly labeled with their appropriate die notations.

Approaches

The first Prime Trait set in Shadowwalkers is Approaches, broad goals that a given action is aimed at achieving. The Infiltration approach is meant to insert the character into a given place or headspace or situation. The Investigation approach is meant to tell the character something about a given situation either in the moment or via research or interrogation, etc. And the Sabotage approach is meant to model the character fucking up a given situation.

INFILTRATION | INVESTIGATION | SABOTAGE

Approaches default to d8 d8 d8

Players may instead choose to step up one d8 to d10 by stepping back one d8 to d6

Distinctions

Distinctions are the third set of Prime Traits and thematically define aspects of each character to paint a clear picture of them as a whole.

Lineage

Your Lineage describes where your life intersected with the supernatural and how that changed you. Your Lineage also determines your character's Power Set.

Bloodless - An encounter with vampires left you half in and half out of their world. You have access to the Bloodless power set.
Changeling - An encounter with a specific species of lycanthrope left you infected or cursed to share their form and appetites. You have access to the Changeling power set.
Fallen - An encounter with disposessed angelic beings branded you, searing your soul to your flesh and claiming you as a soldier in their fight. You have access to the Fallen power set.
Mystic - An encounter with elemental forces opened you to worlds beyond the mortal realm, enabling you to call forth powers from the one into the other. You have access to the Mystic power set.
Revenant - An encounter with the incorporeal dead nearly drew you entirely over to the other side, but you fought your way back. Changed. But alive. Sort of. You have access to the Revenant power set.
Touched - An encounter with creatures of the Fae realms marked you as one of their own. You have access to the Touched power set.
Unfettered - An encounter with beings from without time and space has left you with a serious disconnect from what most folk consider to define reality. You have access to the Unfettered power set.

Profession

A character's Rrofession is what they do outside their place in the supernatural world, though Profession and Lineage are often a hand in glove prosopect, the one supporting and enhancing the other.

Wildcard

The Wildcard distinction represents something truly unique about your character that sets them apart from their fellows.

Plot Point Bidding

PBP format doesn't work well for Player/GM back and forth, so I do my best to avoid it. This means the bidding aspect of spending PP on a roll kinda drops off. Instead, I find it helpful for players to indicate (if you are able) how many PP/HD you are willing to spend (if any) to succeed on the roll. I will do my best to make sure those PP are spent as economically as possible to achieve your desired outcome.

If I am willing to spend enough GMPP that you cannot succeed, I will let you know that so you don't have to burn PP if you don't want to on a failed action (though you always have the option to spend your PP to force me to spend mine in those situations).

If I am requiring an action of you (defending vs an attack, random notice check, etc) I will roll stakes or set a static difficulty so you know what you are rolling against, and I will tell you what PP I am willing to spend. I don't generally pre-roll for actions I think you might take no matter how obvious it might seem, because I don't want to influence how you choose to act in a scene.

PVP

While many games in the vampire genre imply a fairly significant amount of player vs player conflict, I prefer not to run games that lean heavily to that assumption. Games like that simply do not need a GM, and I would rather spend my time running games that do need a GM.

If you wan't to do something that directly acts against another player's character, these are your options.

  • Unilateral Permission: The other player agrees to your action. No rolls are needed. Just RP it out.
  • Limited Permission: The other player doesn't agree that it is an automatic thing, but does agree to let the dice decide.
  • Declined Permission: If the other player does not agree to PVP, it doesn't happen. Move on with something else.

Expectations

Post Frequency

  • I am asking for a daily posting commitment for this game as a general rule, with the understanding that posting might be less frequent on weekends and holidays.

Post Absences

  • If you will NOT be able to post, for whatever reason, please ping us in OOC so we know what is going on or post to the Absences Thread (I pretty much check that thing every time it lights up).

Post Formatting

  • Please bold your character's name at the top of each IC post or bold the first instance of your character's name in the body of the post. We all game with lots of folk, sometimes with the same players in different games; this just makes it easier to keep track of which character we're addressing.
  • If you are addressing another PC in your post it is helpful to bold their character name as well so it stands out for them.
  • OOC blocks are fine for showing dice rolls and brief OOC comments directly related to a particular post. Please sblock if you need to include large blocks of text related to your IC post. All other OOC content should go in the OOC thread itself.
  • Do not place action statements or dice rolls in the OOC Thread. I will never keep up with those. All action statements and dice rolls should go in the IC Thread [with dice rolls OOC Blocked].
  • Please link all dice rolls back to your dice roller.
