Lana

Goddess of Shadow/Living Soulbind

Lana is Terra's original name and her from an alternate timeline. The Terra known to the crew was mercy-killed by her mother and escaped to the Material Plane in a partially botched resurrection, preventing her becoming a vessel of incalcuable Evil. Lana is what would have happened had the ritual been accomplished. The ritual was given to Theronas by Arijani in a bit of double-cross. What was supposedly a ritual to begin the Demi-god's ascenion to full Godhood was, in truth, a binding ritual designed to give Arijani direct access to and control over the ancient Rajahs.

Being the inheritor of the Shadow's power, Lana had direct access to and control of shadowmatter much the same way Terra and her children do now. The ritual had the side effect of turning her into a true creature of shadow. Her body, however, still believed itself to be mortal. She hungered but could not eat, was thirsty but could not drink, sleep was forever denied her, and the innate desire for physical contact could never be satisfied. These tortuous experiences left her quite insane after a few short months, and Arijani's false promise of release secured her loyalty.

After she absorbed Theronas, Arijani drove Lana on a spree of what can only be described as genocide against his fellow Demons, Fiends, and even the Celestials. With each one she absorbed, Lana's power increased and her will further fractured as the consciousness of each being was added to her own. Virtually a mindless slave at Arijani's beckon call, she drew out the sleeping power of the Rajahs as the Rakshasa King had hoped.

His victory was short lived, however. In his hubris, he revealed to the near-brain dead Lana that he was the one who had destroyed her life and made her nothing more than a tool. In a blinding rage, Lana's original consciousness reasserted itself and easily trapped the shocked Rakshasa. Now free and a virtual goddess, she began a rampage of destruction across the face of Eberron, releasing her fury against a world she despised and the inhabitants she believed to be unworthy of the very thing she had been so cruelly denied. By the time she was finished, Eberron was a wasteland. Nary a soul remained, all bound to her in a twisted hive mind.

In the end, she realized she could make her own companions. Using her powers over shadow, she infused shadowmatter with souls she deemed suitable. In an ironic twist, her first, favorite, and closest companion was this timeline's version of Lisa. Things continued like this for a time as she created a society of shadow creatures, rebuilding Eberron in her own image. Eventually, the Shadow from the "true" timeline requested her services. He would grant her her greatest desire, to be free of her curse and the Geas she had been put under, in exchange for aiding him in bringing about the resurrection of Khyber in his world.

She agreed and began her assault first upon Elina and then the crew as a whole. Unfortunately, the Shadow was merely using her as a means to an end. She met face to face with her alternate (Terra), who kept her at bay while Satnak destroyed her from the inside. What became of those she had bound? Satnak severed her hold on them and they were released into their original world. The mixing of Outsider and Mortal souls has created a world of half-breeds as it slowly recovers. Whether Lana has truly been destroyed is up for debate, but she may very well have gotten her wish.
